Spa Creek Anchorage - May 15-17, 2016

May 15 - Kelly IV is the blue-hulled sailboat in the photo. You're right, that's not a good clue in this harbor. A better clue: she's the only blue sailboat with radar.

For the cruisers out there, this is why I'm happy with my solar panels.
That's 10 amps (down from 11) out of my panels and into my batteries. It doesn't take long to top off the batteries at this rate.— feeling happy in Annapolis, Maryland.

May 17 - Annapolis, MD - Navy crew is practicing in my anchorage in this morning's cold rain.

May 8 - Dismal Swamp Canal.
Kelly IV is now in Virginia!

Norfolk across the river from ICW Mile 0.0

Portsmouth, VA:  Kelly IV, Bob & I are now anchored at Mile 0.0 of the ICW after traveling 878 miles north from Titusville, FL. Tomorrow we begin our sail north up the Chesapeake Bay to Annapolis, MD. We're on the Portsmouth side looking at Norfolk. The pic is downtown Norfolk.

May 9 – anchored in Deltaville, VA.

We saw s/v Antares, Will & Muffin of Hillsmere, MD aboard.  You'll recall they passed us in Savanah, GA.

May 10 -   Heavy rain early this morning departing Deltaville, VA. We motored thru rain most of the morning as we crossed the bay towards Crisfield, MD.
Wet departure from Deltaville

Crisfield, Maryland

May 10 - After a rainy, grey day crossing the Chesapeake Bay into Tangier Sound, Kelly IV is safely tied up. We had our first Maryland crabcake in almost a year and enjoyed it thoroughly.

May 11 - Bob & I left Kelly IV in Crisfield and took the mail boat to Smith Island today.

Off to Solomons, MD tomorrow, weather permitting.

May12 - Departed Crisfield at dawn and picked up the little bird on the lines for about a half hour ride. Guess he needed a rest. Photo by Bob W.

Fog today with visibility under a mile. Finally a day sailing out of sight of land! :-)

May 13 - Solomons, Maryland.

May 14 - Sunrise on the bay as Kelly IV heads north towards Herring Bay, then Annapolis.

Kelly IV and I left our crew, the terrific Bob W. at Herrington Harbor.  It was an excellent two plus weeks sailing together!

Thomas Point Shoal Light

As Kelly IV and I sailed past Thomas Point Shoal Light I posted this on Facebook:  "OK Girls & Boys, where is Kelly IV today & what is her port of call tonight?"  Everyone got it right!   :-)

We've arrived in Annapolis, Maryland.  A blustery front blew through about an hour after setting the anchor late this afternoon.  As the anchored remained set on the bottom, we're feeling good about safely staying here awhile.  Since our crew left at Herrington Harbor South about Noon today we're singlehanding until Karen arrives aboard Kelly IV.

Southport, NC - Goat Island, Pasquotank River, NC - May 1-7, 2016

May 1 - Surf City, North Carolina.
Our beautiful morning motorsailing up the Cape Fear River morphed into a rainy afternoon before the sun peered out for a nice evening at anchor. Note that Kelly IV was the subject of a local drone.  We got a video of the drone which was taking a video of us!
Click here for the video we took of the drone.

Anchored at the Surf City Bridge

Kelly IV just passed this pipeline tow:  over 500 feet in length

May 2 - New River Inlet.  We passed this operation towing well over 500 feet of large, long pipes. There was a large towboat which you see pulling the pipes, along with 2 small towboats that were keeping the pipes in line.

Great sail for the entire length of Bogue Sound, north of Emerald Isle, NC!  15+ knots of breeze for the entire sound.

Doug's slip, Beaufort, NC
May 3 - Tied up at a wonderful slip yesterday (Thanks, Doug!) — in Beaufort, North Carolina.  Now we're letting some weather blow by before heading the short distance north to Oriental, NC.

Watching the weather clear
This front just passed thru so now we depart for Oriental and points north.

At Oriental Harbor, tied up in a free slip.  Thank you Oriental!

May 6 -  After 2 nights in Belhaven, NC, Kelly IV is departing northward again. Although much cooler, the weather is forecast to be a bit less rain and fewer thunderstorms. Kelly IV's running lights are on for predawn departure.
