Cycling Indiana

John and I after our Monon Trail ride.
Enjoyed several bicycle rides in September, especially with my youngest brother, John, who recently joined the full-time RV clan, purchasing a 32 foot motorhome and e-Bike.

Our ride took us almost 19 miles,
roundtrip from well south of I-465
to Westfield, IN on the Monon Trail.

Soccer Team 1972 Hall of Fame

Posted by Roger Wilson '76 after the great induction ceremonies for the Wabash College Athletics Hall of Fame:  "Friday September 13 was a special evening for Wabash College and Delta Tau Delta Beta Psi Chapter.  The occasion was the annual Athletic Hall of Fame Induction ceremony where the Soccer team of 1972 was inducted.  That team turned around a mediocre program and established a goal for succeeding teams to reach. The team included 15 Delt Brothers, many of them Freshman who made an immediate impact.

Only 6 opposing goals were scored that season and as Dick Sword ‘76 stated in his remarks, 3 were penalty goals.  A big shoutout to Mike “Gumby” Shaver who starting the nomination process for this team, spending considerable time researching their accomplishments and seeing it through until the team was accepted."

Wabash President, Scott Feller, poses with the
1972 Soccer team as they are inducted into
the Wabash Athletics Hall of Fame.

Fellow Delts began gathering in C'ville on Thursday,
preparing for the honoring of their soccer team
inductees.

At the Wallace Opry, Friday morning.
For the first time, our Wabash Delts were in attendance for
music at the Wallace Opry.  A church group was enjoying their
breakfast and their musicians led them in a hymn,
followed by other musical selections.

Back at Camp Rotary, These Delts raised the Delt colors.

Eddie '76 with Chick Clements, great friend of
the '72 Soccer team as well as all other
Wabash athletes for many decades.
Chick passed away before the '72 Soccer Team was honored.

Dan '79:  Check his new license plate!

This weekend was also Homecoming at Wabash.
The Delts were seen in large numbers at
the luncheon before Saturday's game.

Similar to recent Monon Bell Games,
the Delts hosted a large tailgating tent,
especially for the 1972 Soccer Team.
Thanks to Alex Betz'76 and Jim Evans'77
and several others for making this come together.

Mike "Gumby" Shaver '73
He was the spark and continual flame
that produced the induction of
the 1972 Soccer Team.

And a campfire was ignited at Camp Rotary
for additional story-telling.
