| Mt. Fuji seen from our plane as we flew towards Nagoya |
Takashi and Michiko flew from Nagoya, Japan in 2002 to see my parents. Their visit was just a month before my father's cancer took him from us. It was a wonderful act of support for my mother and my father was thrilled the Matsunagas made the trip to see him. My Dad had been diagnosed with brain cancer in August of 2001 and died a year later, August 17, 2002, shy of his 71st birthday in November.

Takashi had maintained consistent, close contact with my parents through the post/mail in the years before email. Takashi and I traded a few letters over the years, but it was my parents who communicated regularly before email.

Ever since my father's death, my mother had a strong desire to visit Takashi in Japan and especially to visit and honor Takashi's mother. My mother wanted to let Takashi's mother know how proud she was of her son.
My younger son and I traveled with my Mother to Japan, but we left after only a week. Mother stayed for two more weeks (the next blog post documents her extended stay).
