Wye River, Cambridge, Galesville, Annapolis - June 12-18, 2016

June 12, 2016 - Spa Creek Marina. Sunrise this morning as we prepare to sail to the Eastern Shore of the Chesapeake Bay.

We timed things well enough to keep our wait for the bridge opening to just a few minutes.  Unlike the day we had to wait over an hour because we forgot about the weekday morning rush when the bridge stays closed.

Wye River anchorage
Our beautiful, quiet, snug anchorage for a couple nights after a perfect sail today from Annapolis to the Eastern shore. Enjoying solitude, fast skates, wading birds, bright sunshine & comfortable breeze. Only drawback . . . no hockey game.

June 13, 2016 - Karen and I spent a quiet day reading, working on small boat projects and enjoying the calm and serenity of our solo anchorage.  A few small boats swooped past to see Kelly IV, but none stopped to talk or intrude.

June 14, 2016 - Great sailing this morning out of Eastern Bay, including a mini adventure traversing the thin waters of Poplar Island Narrows, just east of Poplar Island. Another beautiful day on the Chesapeake Bay with Karen.

This evening we tied up at the free seawall in Cambridge, MD at the Dorchester County Building.

June 15, 2016 - The original plan was to stay in Cambridge for two nights, but the weather forecast looked a bit iffy for getting across the open Chesapeake on the 16th, so we departed this morning for the West River.  After a damp motorsail from Cambridge, we're tied up in Galesville.

We arrived in time to observe the the Wednesday night racers head out for a challenging sail in the gusty breeze. We'll probably be here for two or three days as we let the wet weather blow thru.

June 16, 2016 - Great News!  We'll have company for our sail back to Annapolis.  Keith and Stephanie are driving to the Chesapeake Bay this weekend and will join us early on the 18th for the sail from Galesville to Annapolis.

June 18, 2016 - Our waterview sunrise this morning was spectacular, but you judge for yourself at the photo. Later today we sailed back to Annapolis with great friends, Stephanie & Keith Otto.  While the sun and water were glorious, the wind was non-existent, so it was a motor trip the entire way.
