Old Truck, Barn and a Great History, July 17-20, 2019

We saw many terrific shows beginning with "The Dutton's," a family of three generations performing many instruments and singing, but they are especially skilled with their fiddles.  Check their performance on AGT, especially at the 1:30 mark.
Our first show in Branson:  "The Dutton's"
You'll notice they are playing the fiddle Next to them, Not their own!
One element of inspiration for our trip came from good friends, Gail and Roger of western PA, TGO and Appalachian Trail fame (They successfully thru-hiked the AT in 2017).
Gail with her Dad's truck
Gail's father owned, drove and personally maintained a 1953 pickup truck until he stopped driving it in the late 1990's.  Gail and her siblings all learned to drive in her dad's truck.  Once he stopped driving, the truck was stored in an old barn near Gail's family home in Latrobe, PA.  As events unfolded, Johnny Morris, founder and CEO of Bass Pro Shops, decided the barn was perfect for the restaurant he was building at his golf resort, "Top of the Rock," at Table Rock Lake, Missouri.  When negotiating the purchase, Johnny was reported to say that if he didn't get the truck with the barn, he wouldn't buy the barn!
Johnny's version of the story
Well, Johnny got both the barn and the truck and they are today enjoyed by the thousands of folks who visit "Top of the Rock" every year, including Karen and me!

Buffalo sculpture
Since we were already at the resort, we decided to enjoy a dinner at the "Buffalo Bar," named for the impressive sculpture overlooking Table Rock Lake.  Since we dined at sunset, we were delighted by the piping ceremony.
