Tour Solomons

Per Captain Sean:

Sarah Paviol, Zach Sprys, Bill Paviol, Warren Stewart, Allen Murphy, and I had an epic South Paw cruise taking advantage of the long Labor Day weekend to sail down to Solomons Island. We had to motor sail most of it due to the distance, but Saturday surprised us with about an hour and a half of motorless sailing into the Patuxent. We passed the Calvert Cliffs and a large liquid natural gas facility on the way. Once in Solomon's, we swam, cleaned up and met up with Scott and Janet Mullins for dinner at The Pier. Saturday was bookended with incredible sunrise and sunset. Sunday, we went to the Calvert Marine Museum, had a cookout at Spring Cove with the Mullins, John and Laurie Ford, and Murph's friend Ed, who was anchored in Galesville and drove down. Murph and I dinghied over in the dark to Calvert Marina to tour Scott and Janet's boat, Spiced Rhumb. Monday, we fully expected to get soaked, but the weather changed and not a drop fell. We made good time motor sailing downwind with just the jib. We were backed into our slip at Port Annapolis by 2:45p. We covered over 90 miles over the weekend. I've been on a lot of great sails with this crew now and Zach was a good addition. This is now becoming a Labor Day tradition.

Chef extraordinaire, Bill,
prepared a tremendous breakfast.

The crew set off touring Solomons, beginning at
the Calvert Marine Museum.

These otters were a big hit!

The otters enjoyed swimming into
their outside pool from indoors.

Murph may have been the only person at the museum
interested in knots.

Observing the rays "fly" through the water.
This crab was one of many scuttling along under the pier
at the museum.

Cookout at Spring Cove with the Mullins
and John & Laurie Ford.

Sunset in Solomons' Back Creek from South Paw.
