Our boat docked this morning in 2500-year-old Passau, known for its pastel patrician houses, cafes, cobblestone lanes and riverfront promenade. Karen and I jumped on the bus to enjoy the full day tour of picturesque Salzburg, birthplace of Mozart and setting for the Sound of Music. The walking tour included some of Salzburg's most historic sites including the Mirabell Palace, the Abbey, Salzburg Cathedral, and St. Peter's Cemetery. After lunch at a local restaurant, we took the incline railway to the Fortress Hohensalzburg. This day held great memories for me as I had
visited here in 1980 with college buddy, Kim Koch. While we were touring Salzburg, the Monarch Empress continued downriver to Aschach an der Donau, where our bus caught up and we reboarded for our cruise along the beautiful Danube River.
