It was a beautiful, sunny day for the drive along the coast from Brookings to Gold Beach.
Jada found ripe blackberries at this rest stop. |

At the Port Hole Cafe |
Also at the Port Hole Cafe! There is a neat, little museum there. |
Our view from "Belly's" window. That's the Pacific just beyond those cars. |
Saw this huge log on the beach when I took a walk. See where the water is? Keep that in mind for a pic below. |
Looking north towards Gold Beach. The white spots on the beach are white rocks like the ones above. |
This guano-covered stack was near Kissing Rock. |
Kissing Rock |
Watch as these waves cross each other.
To me they seemed to run
a hundred miles per hour right down the beach!
Remember that log in the photo at the beginning of this hike? When returning to this spot the tide was washing against the log, only 90 minutes later. |
In the afternoon we drove along the Rogue River to hike this trail. |
The trail switchbacked its way up a steep hill. |
This is the Myrtle Tree, HUGE! |
That's me Inside the tree! |
Jada inside the tree. You can see where a forest fire, decades ago, burned the inside of this tree. |
This view is looking straight UP, inside the tree. |
Back at the mouth of the Rogue River in Gold Beach we saw this guy surfing the waves of the inlet. |
The mouth of the Rogue was always busy with fisherman, surfers and this tug and dredging barge. We saw the barge exit the Rogue earlier to dump at sea the material dredged from a bit further upstream. |
The dredging was a 24/7 effort. |
We drove both sides of the river to/from the trail. |
