New Jersey - June 26-30, 2020

June 27, 2020 Track

Another Huge campsite, this one in Dingman's Ferry,
Delaware Water Gap NP

Karen and I spent the last few days exploring northern NJ.  It proved to be very exciting, adventurous, and surprising!  I've been through NJ more times than I can count and had no idea how terrific the northern mountains can be.

Great Falls, Paterson, NJ.  I had no idea this existed in
downtown Paterson, so close to New York City.

Gail & Roger hiked the AT on this actual path in 2017!

Karen was the first "Trail Angel" for this group by providing them with cold water.  They had just completed the "Stairway to Heaven" and Boardwalk of their Section Hike of the AT.

The Appalachian Trail was merely planks set across a cow
pasture at the foot of the "Stairway to Heaven."

Believe it or not, that is the trail up the "Stairway to Heaven."
Other sectionss were MUCH steeper and
others had MUCH more difficult rocks!

Maryland, PA and NJ - June 23-26, 2020

Our drive on the 23rd began and ended at points
on the Great Allegheny Passage Trail
Similar to cruising on a boat, full time aboard an RV is "doing maintenance in exotic places." Over the past few days, Karen & I got the generator and truck engine serviced and  replenished our groceries in Cumberland, MD then camped nearby in the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal National Park.  We had the campground nearly to ourselves on a weekday.  Then drove north to a nice KOA near Lewisburg, PA & visited an old friend, Bill, & his buddy nearby.  We're now doing laundry and will head to our next camp in the Delaware Water Gap.

Dramatic rock cliffs towering over the highway in Cumberland, MD.

Our campsite in the C&O Canal NP at the Spring Gap Campground.  That's the Potomac River behind the RV.

I forgot to get a pic of our camp at the
Nittany Mt. KOA, so I borrowed this from the web.

Our drive on June 26, 2020. the brown stop
in Bloomsburg was the laundry stop.

Fallingwater, Pennsylvania - June 22, 2020

Our 2nd tourist stop today was the famous Fallingwater, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright for the Kaufmann family.

Thanks to the virus, it was a strictly external tour but still impressive.

Kentuck Knob, Ohiopyle, PA - June 22, 2020

Our first tourist stop today was Frank Lloyd Wright's "Kentuck Knob".  https://kentuckknob.com/

Ohiopyle, PA - June 21, 2020

Another section of the Great
Allegheny Passage
Trail
Karen suggested we visit Ohiopyle and it proved to be a terrific ride!  Beautiful falls, rapids, bridges & our first ice cream since COVID-19!!!  A flat ride on a well-maintained rail trail, more of the Great Allegheny Passage heading toward Pittsburgh rather than toward Maryland, as we rode yesterday.

Dramatic variety along our trail today

Another gorgeous bicycle trail, and rider to match!

That's our ice cream stop in the white building with the red trim.
