Saturday was the BIG DAY, the Monon Bell Football Contest between the dainty dannies of DePauw vs the Cavemen of Wabash. Of course the day began early for many folks like Jim Evans, Charley Hutchins, Randy Allen, Steve & Brenda Wakefield, Chuck Candiano and Darrell Hobson. These folks and many others arrived at Mud Hollow Tailgating Area and easily found the largest tent on the grounds, the huge Delt structure. The team set up donuts, coffee, tables, chairs, heaters, stage, microphone & speakers and especially, the bar! By 10am Chuck and Darrell were serving superb bloody marys.
The tent was packed with 603WW members, guests, Delt alumni and their families as well as interested folks from the college and community. The reason was the highly anticipated awards presentation. Roger Wilson, Awards Committee Chair grabbed a mic and began by announcing that three important 603WW members had earned Distinguished Service Awards. These presentations were followed by the prestigious Brooks-Seymour Award that was earned by a founder and first president of 603WW.

Austin Brooks '66 Namesake of the Brooks-Seymour Award While winning the Bell is a big deal, the Brooks-Seymour Award has become the most important recognition for 603WW. Named for this beloved Delt Advisor, Austin Brooks and equally beloved Wabash President Thaddeus Seymour (passed away 2019), this auspicious award recognizes those who have provided service to the Wabash Delt Brotherhood above and beyond the typical or routine. |

With seconds left, Wabash had only to make a field goal from close yardage to win the game. Sadly, DePauw blocked the kick, sending the game into overtime. DePauw prevailed to return to Greencastle with the Monon Bell. |

There's always next year. |
