Duquesne Incline

This view of the Point, downtown Pittsburgh
is from the top of the incline railway.
While the Carnegie Art Museum was our primary focus this day, We had time to visit the Duquesne Incline, a classic Pittsburgh site and experience.

All the best photos here were taken by Jada.

Duquesne Incline Railway
There are two cars, one at each end of
a long cable that connects the two cars.
The cable runs around a large pulley at
the top station so the weights of the two cars
are balanced, one car moving uphill
while the other moves downhill.
The motor at the top station has only to
overcome the friction in the system to
enable the cars to simultaneously
traverse the hillside.

The two cars are almost entirely
made of wood and show some wear.

Did you notice the detail on the ceiling?

This view is from the observation platform at
the top of the incline.  We took a nice walk/hike
along Grandview Avenue to see the sights.

Seneca leader, Guyasuta, with George Washington
at Point of View, a small park with
a terrific view of downtown Pittsburgh.
It is noteworthy that they both have put down their weapons.

Jada: "I liked the intensity of the expression.
Plus ears are hard to sculpt and
I thought it was just perfect."
