Day 43 Rt 66, Williams, AZ

Sunrise Day 43 in Bellemont, AZ, west of Flagstaff

Day 43 following Historic Route 66 brought me into Williams, AZ.  This is a great Rt 66 town and also the "Gateway to the Grand Canyon."  There are so many classic buildings and signage, maybe because Williams was the last town bypassed by I-40 in 1984, so many buildings were in active use much longer than elsewhere.

Coldest overnight on Route 66, west of Flagstaff, AZ.

Parks, AZ. I learned from the proprietor that this building and
roadside stop has been operating since 1906.

East of Williams, AZ and west of Parks, AZ.

Apparently there is am Auto Tour
available, but this is the only
evidence I found.

whom the town was named
as well as a river and mountain.

This memorial park at the western edge of Williams
honors the men lost in Pearl Harbor
as well as all veterans.

This museum is on the western edge of town in WIlliams.

This collection of antiques was behind a gas station,
now museum in Williams, AZ.

Check his hands . . . this fella has been waiting a L - O - N - G time! 🙂

Even this modern gas station in Williams has the 66 spirit,
displaying the traditional Rt 66 signs and this old pump.

Had a nice chat with the proprietor of this
classic Rt 66 motel in Williams. He's understandably
proud of his maintenance and improvements
to this grand example of motor court hotels.

neon sign, benches, planters and Elvis are
three dimensional! Williams, AZ.
