Day 42, Crater to Flagtown

Mural on the west side of Winslow, AZ.
Day 42 on Route 66 took me to the Meteor Crater and Flagstaff, 72 miles along the Historic Route.

The view of the San Francisco range
from just west of Winslow, AZ.

Meteor City is a ghost town.

The best preserved and first proven meteorite impact site on Earth.
I've been wanting to see this
since I saw pictures in the Golden Book when I was four.

The bottom of the crater.

The bottom of the crater seen through the telescope lens.

This fellow decided who entered
the gift shop at the Meteor Crater.
I believe he's from Roswell, NM now,
his hometown is elsewhere. 👽

The San Francisco mountains framed at the Meteor Crater site.

Ruins seen east of
road leading to Meteor Crater

Domed building on road to Meteor Crater.

Classic Twin Arrows, AZ.

An old truss bridge west of Winona, AZ
frames the San Francisco mountains.

This place has been on Rt 66 forever
and closed just days after I was in town.

Classic neon throughout Flagstaff, AZ.

Wonderful vintage neon in Flagstaff.

I loved the old train station in Flagstaff & caught this locomotive barreling through town.

Me, trying to be an arteest.
Your opinion, John/ Rhonda?

An old motel, now a great apartment building
in Flagstaff, the old Sierra Vista.

I just thought this was a really cool building from yesteryear.
Not sure what an architect would think (Allison?) in Flagstaff.

This is a long mural in Flagstaff,
the pic is several pasted together.

This Rt 66 muffler man has been adopted by
the NAU Lumberjacks,
formerly at Granny's Closet in Flagstaff.

Sunset seen from Bellemont, AZ
lit up the San Francisco mountains, NW of Flagstaff.
