Day 12 to Strafford, MO

Today I enjoyed 41 miles of Route 66 and discovered that Paul McCartney celebrated his 66th birthday travelling Route 66.  .  .  .  And I am doing the same thing!  It didn't dawn on me until today that I began driving Rt 66 just days after my 66th birthday.  This adds special meaning to this trip as before it was merely a fun idea, now it is a powerful celebration!

Lebanon, MO is home to a terrific Rt 66 Museum

This bench greeted me when I entered the museum

The maps from the planning and building stages of Rt 66
were very interesting to examine.

This display made clear how Camp Joy must have looked
during the early days of Rt 66.

A great example of classic service stations.

This view of Lebanon, MO was helpful in understanding
the original and newer routes that US 66 took though town.

A wonderful exhibit that provided superb evidence
of the challenges of early travel by automobile.

The two rest areas on I-44, near mile marker 111 have
really cool picnic shelters celebrating icons of Rt 66.

Marshfield, MO, Edwin Hubble's hometown, honored him
with this memorial of the telescope named for him.

I'm really enjoying these murals. This one is
in Marshfield, MO on the side of a building in the town square.
