Day 5 Rt 66 to Lincoln, IL

Only covered 28 miles of old Route 66 today, but drove 55 miles total.  I had some personal errands, so got a late start.

As the train tracks are behind me in this photo,
I wonder if this was once the train station
for the ghost town of Funks Grove, IL?

A funky country store in Funks Grove, IL.
Did you catch my RV reflected in the window?

Funks Grove Maple Sirup
(That's how it's spelled in Funks Grove!)
Apparently, November 11 is too late for "Sirup"

The famous "Dixie Truckers Home," McLean, IL

This abandoned section of the original Route 66,
circa 1926 shows that my little rig (8.5' wide)
was the same width as one lane,
NOT counting my mirrors!

Several large men, painted & "dressed" differently,
yet their hands and face are always the same,
are referred to as the "muffler men" of Rt 66.
There are several along the historic route.
The "Gemini Giant" holding a rocket was my first,
seen in Wilmington, IL on Day 2.

The Public Library in Atlanta was well worth visiting
